Kanani Danielson put down 22 kills and Jane Croson added 17 to lead No. 8 Hawaii to a 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-27, 15-5 victory over New Mexico State tonight in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match in Las Cruces, N.M.

Emily Hartong, switching from right-side hitter to middle blocker for the last two sets, added 11 kills for the Rainbow Wahine (16-1, 6-0 WAC), who took over sole possession of first place in the conference.

Hawaii extended its regular-season conference winning streak to 47 in winning its 11th straight this season.

Mita Uiato served for 10 consecutive points in Set 5 as the Wahine pulled away from a 3-3 tie to a 13-3 lead. Uiato had three of UH's seven aces.

Meredith Hays led the Aggies (16-5, 5-1) with 22 kills.

I think NMSU played a heck of a match. Wahine's got the W, but it was ugly. No vocal leader for the Wahine's to get them pumped up. Was thinking maybe Hewitt would be the one. Coach is running Kanani into the ground, you can tell that she was getting tired out there.Next meeting at the SSC should be a good match again.

I didn't think NMSU would be easy. Hats off to them. Just happy the Wahine still pulled off the win.

Whew!!! What a nail biter that game was, especially the 1st 4 sets. An amazing win for the Wahines especially in front of a hostile crowd and playing away. I'm soo proud of the outstanding efforts by the Wahines ! Well done!!! Go BOWS!!!!
