Mountain View home is 'total loss' after fire

Hawaii County firefighters say a small 2-story wooden home that burned down in Mountain View Friday night is a total loss.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 10:24 p.m. and found the 800-square foot home burned to the ground. 

Damage is estimated at $45,000. The fire also damaged the bed of a pickup truck that had contained trash.

The home was located at 181223 Waikiki Street. Firefighters arrived at 10:49 p.m. and brought the fire under control at 11 p.m. Firefighters put out hot spots and extinguished the fire at 1 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
