An 18-year-old Keaau man has been charged in connection with a home invasion early Saturday that left a 69-year-old woman hospitalized with serious head injuries.

Seferin Tilipau was charged Sunday with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and first-degree assault. He is being held without bail pending his initial court appearance in South Hilo District Court today.

According to police, Tilipau forced his way into the woman’s Hawaiian Paradise Park home and assaulted her shortly after midnight. Police responding to a report of a woman screaming saw a man matching Tilipau’s description fleeing the area. Tilipau was found hiding in a nearby house about an hour later and was arrested.

The woman was taken to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
