A 24-year-old Salt Lake man is being held on $75,000 bail after being charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident in Kalihi earlier this week.

Police said McNeil Valencia drove to a home on Eluwene Street just before 11 p.m. and met with a group of friends. He then allegedly confronted another man, 23, and accused him of stealing from him, police said.

Valencia pulled out a machete and sliced the victim on his ear, face and collarbone, according to a neighbor who spoke to Hawaii News Now.

The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
