Not-so-scary weather forecast for Halloween

Halloween trick-or-treaters on most islands should be able to stay dry, but forecasters say bring an umbrella just in case if you live on the windward side.

A weather system east of the state is creating some instability and increased moisture in the air. It will likely bring rain to the Big Island, but the National Weather Service says the rest of the state can expect the usual tradewind weather pattern of windward and mauka showers and the slight chance of showers blowing over to leeward areas.

"I think we'll be okay," said Ian Morrison, a forecaster with the National Weather Service. "Have a look to the sky to the east for the wicked witch and see if she's riding in on clouds or if there are stars."

Morrison said the increased moisture in the atmosphere could bring heavier than usual rain Wednesday.

The weather system may move closer to the Big Island later in the week, bringing increased windward and mauka showers to the Hilo side and afternoon showers to the Kona side of the island.
