Dennis oda / doda@staradvertiser.com@Caption1:The McDonald's restaurant on Kuhio Avenue remained closed Saturday after an early-morning fatal shooting. The suspect, a 27-year-old federal agent, is in custody.

A funeral is being held for the Hawaii man a federal agent allegedly shot in a Waikiki McDonald’s restaurant.

The family of 23-year-old Kollin Elderts will receive visitors at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary in Kaneohe Wednesday. A funeral service and private burial will follow.

Elderts was shot in the chest during the Nov. 5 altercation in the tourist district.

State Department Special Agent Christopher Deedy has been charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The 27-year-old agent was in Honolulu to help with security at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. He was released after posting $250,000 bond.

He’s expected to be arraigned Thursday in Honolulu District Court.

No doubt Elderts was a troubled young man. Many of us are lucky to have survived the 20's unscathed and used lessons learned to correct life's trajectory. Being no angel, does not lessen the sorrow felt by the family. Am truly sorry for the loss and pain the family and extended family have had to endure through this ordeal and hope the deceased finds eternal peace.
