WANAQUE, N.J. >> Police are crediting a 6-year-old for keeping her cool when a stranger entered her house while she was home alone. Police say the girl locked herself in a bedroom and called her mother, who called 911 Tuesday. The man ran off. Wanaque Police Detective Capt. Thomas Norton told The Record newspaper the girl gave a great description and officers arrested a man on burglary and theft charges about 10 minutes later. Norton says the girl was home sick from school and that her mother left the home just before 2 p.m. to get her something. Norton says the man told them he entered an unlocked basement door after he saw the mother drive away. The child's name was not released.
