By Star-Advertiser staff

LAST UPDATED: 08:20 a.m. HST, Dec 03, 2011

Equipment trouble caused a power outage for Hawaiian Electric Co. customers in the Hauula, Punaluu and Kaaawa neighborhoods for several hours Friday afternoon.

The trouble occurred in an area substation about 4:30 p.m., HECO spokeswoman Barbara Heckathorn said. Some customers experienced an outage, others may have had some flickering of power, while other may not been affected at all, Heckathorn said.

It was unclear how many homes were actually affected but repairs appear to have been completed by about 6:30 p.m., she said.
