Ala Moana water main break repaired in time for marathon

Honolulu Board of Water Supply crews finished repairing an 8-inch pipe at 1450 Ala Moana Boulevard and expected to finish repairs on the eastbound lanes of Ala Moana between Piikoi Street and Atkinson Drive before the start of the Honolulu Marathon this morning.
Water service to all portions of Ala Moana Beach Park was restored about 1:17 p.m. Saturday.
But crews are worked on the road through the night.
The leak on the lateral pipe was reported at 3 a.m. Saturday.
Traffic heading to the beach, Ala Moana Center and Waikiki on Ala Moana Boulevard backed up to Ward Avenue.
The break was also on the Honolulu Marathon route.
