Road to Mauna Kea open, but more winter weather expected

By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected for a second day on the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Hawaii island summits, where an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow is predicted for today. No snow fell overnight.

Web cameras on the Mauna Kea summit showed snow on the ground this morning.

Snow removal crews cleared the Mauna Kea access road, which had 3 to 6 inches of snow at 9 a.m. Sunday.

But access is expected to remain difficult because of slippery roads and limited visibility.
