Lindsay Lohan reports losing $10K in Laie purse theft

Actress, singer and soon-to-be-unveiled Playboy model Lindsay Lohan claims to have lost $10,000 when her purse was allegedly stolen at a house party in predominantly Mormon Laie Saturday night.

Honolulu police acknowledged that Lohan filed a police report on the theft but could not confirm the amount of money taken.

Lohan is reportedly in Hawaii with her sister Ali to avoid the expected media crush when her highly publicized nude spread in Playboy hits the newsstands this week. (The issue is being released earlier than scheduled due to images leaked on the Internet.)

Lohan, 25, enjoyed enormous popularity as an actress in several Disney films and TV productions but in recent years has become better known for her numerous brushes with the law and her ongoing issues with drug and alcohol abuse.

According to TMZ, Lohan left her $5,000 purse — containing cash, a passport, and a probation document allowing her to travel outside of California — inside a jeep parked outside the party. When Lohan returned to the vehicle, the purse was missing.

“It was the most bizarre thing and it was bizarre on so many levels,” said Laie resident Clark Cahoon, who was at the party. “If you’re looking for somewhere to go that doesn’t have drugs or alcohol, you won’t find anything more wholesome than a party at a Mormon home. The hardest thing you’ll find is maybe an energy drink. So, it was bizarre when she showed up and it just got more bizarre from there.”

Cahoon said the party started around 9 p.m. as an acoustic music gathering, with dancing starting around 10:30 p.m. Lohan arrived around 11 p.m., brought by a mutual friend who met her at the Turtle Bay Resort.

“Everybody knew who she was but they tried to give her some space,” Cahoon said. “Still, it was the elephant in the room.”

Cahoon left just before the party broke up around midnight. That was when Lohan reportedly discovered her purse missing and questioned first people at the party then others in the surrounding neighborhood.

National gossip sites reported the purse was eventually returned, sans cash, by “a suspicious local.”

Cahoon said he believes whoever took the purse was not associated with the party.

Lohan is scheduled for a progress report hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

I have to say that it is not true that Mormons are squeaky clean. There is a percentage of Mormons that have issues with drugs and alcohol.

They dont have pre-marital sex either. All the bablies of teenagers are immaculate conceptions. Mormons are just like the rest of us. Some good, some bad, some drink and do drugs. Might not be the majority but some steal too. However...i wouldnt put it past her that its bull and a way to get insurance money.

10k in a 5k bag holding a passport and probation papers-2 bad she was not attached. Give me a break, a "suspicious local?" What was so suspicious about the local? He was purple? Pink? What? He was a honest, poor, local, dude, and shows up at an affluent party for the effluent xian dregs of Hollywood that cater to nude posers, to turn in a missing designer bag, and He is suspicious? Score none for Romney types and his typical roach friends.

LOL! Exactly. Reminds me of the time my husband told someone that he was from Hawaii. The response was "Wow! Your english is so good!" That was a good one, soshaljustice. It's good to start the day with a chuckle. Aw well, time for me to put on my coconut bra and go to work.

come on! who is going to leave a purse like that with that kind of money in plain sight in a jeep? she really should move back in with her mom. A second come on! who believes that there is no drinking or drugs or stealing in Laie. And a third come on to the paper for not doing more reporting on Lindsay. Who does she know in Laie? where is she staying? and all that scoop on her? Just cause the Warriors season is over doesn't mean yours is!

Not all Mormons are thieves, drug addicts and liars. In fact some of them are my best friends (wink-wink!!) I just would not trust them as far as I can see (I wear glasses!!). Whoever told her to leave her purse in the car got a percentage of the "take" and is probably smoking a fat one right now. "Suspicious Local?" why don't you just say Samoan, Tongan or Hawaiian? If he was white you would say "A Good Samaritan!". That's why I only stop in Mormon country to take a leak on the side of the road.

A "house party" that starts at 9PM with dancing starting at 10:30PM in a Mormon community? . That don't sound too Mormonish to me. They probably broke up a midnight because the police were there to investigate the theft. Otherwise they probably would have gone to the wee hours.

For Pete's sake! Does anyone believe Lohan about anything? She has had more than "brushes with the law." She is a convicted thief, and a known liar. She was carrying $10,000 in a $5,000 purse and left it unattended in a car? Oh, please! Go back to California, you blight on humanity.

As easy as it is to hate this girl, I actually feel sorry for her. She grew up with zero discipline because her parents saw her as a cash cow. Nobody ever taught her to be an adult.
