Waves with faces topping 20 feet pounded Oahu's North Shore on Saturday as a high surf advisory remained in effect for north and west shores of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and Niihau.
Forecasters say the swell will gradually decline on Sunday. Surf is predicted to be 16 to 22 feet on Oahu, Kauai and Niihau. Maui and Molokai should see wave faces of 14 to 18 feet along north shores. Surf along west shores of Niihau, Kauai and Oahu are expected to be 12 to18 feet.
The swell began building on Friday, producing spectacular, but dangerous surf.
The weather service warns the high surf will produce dangerous rip currents and inexperienced beach-goers are advised to stay out of the water and away from the shore break, which could pull someone into the water.
