Waipahu care home resident charged with attempted murder

Prosecutors charged 44-year old man with second degree attempted murder in the stabbing of a community care home operator in Waipahu Tuesday morning.

Jonathan Laronel is being held on $100,000 bail and is expected to make an initial appearance in District Court this morning.

Police said Laronel, a resident at a foster home for adults, attacked Oscar Anuciacion with a steak knife while Anunciacion was sleeping on an air bed in the living room of he care home on Apowale Street in Waipahu at about 3 a.m. 

Anunciacion suffered numerous cuts but the wounds were superficial and he was treated and released from the Queen’s Medical Center.

Laronel has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and is also diabetic, Anunciacion said.
