New Year's Eve in Hawaii will be windy but mostly dry, according to the National Weather Service.

"It's a below normal chance of rain," said John Bravender, a weather service meteorologist.. "We're going to be dry and stable, just some showers in the typical windward and mauka areas."

On New Year's Eve, winds should pick up to about 10 to 15 mph, which should be enough to blow around smoke with all the fireworks, Bravender said.

Surf is looking good for the first day of 2012 too. Swells should be building Sunday morning, and peak to more than 15 feet by Sunday afternoon. Surf will drop by Monday, but should pick up again on Tuesday.

"It could bring warning level surf for north and west facing shores, surf over 25 feet," Bravender said.
