Kauai SWAT team arrests man firing rifle in Kapaa

A Kauai police SWAT team arrested a 41-year-old man who allegedly fired off multiple rounds from a rifle from the yard of his Kapaa home, a Kauai County spokeswoman said.


Police responded to reports of gunfire from a home on Kawaihau Road near Kapahi Park at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday night and closed Kawaihau Road at Kaapuni Road, police said..


The road remained closed until about 12:30 a.m. today after the man surrendered to crisis negotiators at 12:06 a.m.


The suspect, Kevin Christian, remains in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail for first degree reckless endangering, police said.


No one else was home at the time and no injuries were reported.
