An alert security guard caught a man Friday after he used another person's receipt to walk out of a Pearl City store with a vacuum cleaner, police said.
The first man went into the Home Depot and bought a vacuum cleaner, then went out and met with the alleged thief, police said.
The security guard saw the customer give the receipt to the second man, who then went into the store, picked up another vacuum and showed the receipt when passing a cash register on the way out, police said.
The man was stopped outside the store.
The man, of no local address, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. for investigation of second-degree theft.
