A 17-year-old boy wanted for escaping from a correctional facility was arrested Friday after an alert security guard recognized him from a previous shoplifting incident, police said.
The security officer saw the boy conceal jewelry from a Windward Oahu store and leave without paying on Nov. 11, police said.
The security guard recognized the boy when he returned on Friday and detained him, police said.
Officers arrested the boy for investigation of theft and for second-degree escape.
Police said the boy had received a furlough pass for a day on Oct. 29 and never returned to the correctional facility.
