The Hawaii men's basketball team methodically built a 20-point lead and then fought off several San Jose State rallies for an 82-69 win over the Spartans tonight.
The Rainbow Warriors opened their last season in the Western Athletic Conference with their first win in a league opener in six years.
Joston Thomas led the Rainbows with a career-high 27 points on 10-for-14 shooting. Vander Joaquim added 20 points and 14 rebounds. Point guard Miah Ostrowski had 7 assists while turning the ball over only once.
SJSU was led by Wil Carter with 21 points and a game-high 20 rebounds.
