A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircraft from Barbers Point resumed the search Monday for an 18-year-old seaman who fell overboard 115 miles south of American Samoa on Sunday.
The sailor was aboard the U.S.-flagged fishing vessel Siva Moana when he fell overboard while recovering fishing gear. He was not wearing a life jacket.
A Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3 Orion search plane was launched to begin a search. The Barbers Point Coast Guard aircrew relieved the crew of the P-3 on Sunday. The Hercules crew completed a search with no sign of the seaman before landing in Pago Pago and resumed the search today.
The Siva Moana remains in the area and is assisting in the search.
