FBI agents arrested a 65-year-old Japanese citizen this morning for allegedly assaulting a flight attendant on a Delta Air Lines flight from Tokyo to Honolulu.

The man was arrested about 7:30 a.m. upon the flight's arrival in Honolulu, the FBI said.

Tom Simon, Honolulu FBI special agent, said passenger Sohei Yamanouchi is alleged to have hit a female flight attendant twice — once with an open hand and again with a closed fist.

The incident took place in the business class section of Delta Flight 608 from Narita International Airport. Alcohol intoxication may have been a factor, Simon said.

The flight attendant did not require immediate medical attention, Simon said.

Yamanouchi, made his initial appearance in Honolulu U.S. District Court at today before Magistrate Judge Puglisi. He was released pending his next court appearance Jan. 20. He surrendered his passport and has been ordered to remain on Oahu.
