Brown water advisory issued for Kauai in aftermath of heavy rains

By Star-Advertiser staff

POSTED:

Kauai residents in Hanalei, Wailua and Nawiliwili are advised by the state Health Department to stay out of coastal waters where runoff has turned the water brown.

Heavy rains on Kauai may have washed cesspool and sewer manhole overflows, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris into the waters, the state Health Department said today in a “Brown Water Advisory”.

The Health Department said if coastal waters are turbid and brown, stay out.
