Thirty-nine people were arrested today during a warrant sweep on Oahu by the Department of Public Safety's Sheriff Division.
The arrests came during the quarterly sweep by the Sheriff Division's Special Operations Section, said Toni Schwartz, Department of Public Safety spokeswoman.
She said 31 men and 8 women were booked Tuesday morning and 74 warrants were served — some had multiple warrants — at the Sheriff Division's booking station on Keawe Street. Of the 74 warrants, 64 were traffic-related, six were for criminal contempt, and the remaining were for a grand jury indictment, information charging, a HOPE probation violation, and a deferred acceptance of guilty plea violation.
Deputy sheriffs brought the arrestees to the Honolulu Police Department holding cell, beginning at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, until they could be processed at the Keawe Street cell block.
Schwartz said some of those arrested didn't know they had a warrant for their arrest and turned themselves in after authorities called them.
