By Star-Advertiser staff

A 21-year-old Honokowai motorcyclist was speeding and weaving in and out of heavy traffic today before he hit a parked truck and was killed in Lahaina, Maui police said.

Wayan Decosta was driving a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle about 80 to 100 mph, weaving between the two Napili-bound lanes on Honoapiilani Highway and the bicycle lane when he tried to pass a van in the slow lane on the right about 3:35 p.m., police said. He entered the bike lane and hit the rear of a parked truck.

He was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. at the Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was not wearing a helmet

Decosta was Maui's second traffic fatality this year, compared to none at this time last year.
