An alert First Hawaiian Bank teller in Waikiki's Eaton Square center foiled an attempt by a man to cash a stolen check, police said.

Police said a 25-year-old Waimanalo man attempted to cash an allegedly forged and stolen check at 10 a.m. Monday. The attempt failed when the bank teller called the account holder and then called police.
