A 21-year-old Kapiolani-area man was arrested Monday after he allegedly tried to leave the Hilton Hawaiian Village without paying the nearly $700 bill he ran up, police said.

Officers responded to the Waikiki hotel at 1 p.m. after being called about a man was reportedly trespassing in a room. The man had asked for a late checkout, but when asked to verify his name, he gave one that was different than the one used when he checked in, police said.  The suspect then said he could not pay the room charge of $696.63.

He was arrested on a second-degree theft and four contempt charges.
