A vessel is heading to assist a sailboat that lost its mast in the ocean northeast of Hilo today, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard put out a call for help from any vessels nearby and one was responding by about 9 p.m., said Petty Officer 3rd Class Anthony Soto.

The vessel was adrift, but there were no reports of injuries or illness, Soto said.
