A Canadian tourist and his 10-year-old daughter tried to rescue a fellow visitor using their boogie boards off Napili Bay in west Maui  Wednesday, but ended up getting caught in a rip tide and needed help from county firefighters.

Maui fire officials said a 56-year-old man, also from Canada, got caught in the rip current off the beach at Napili Bay. A 38-year-old man and his daughter saw that the swimmer was in trouble and tried to rescue him using their boogie boards.

When the firefighters arrive ad 10:41 a.m. all three were 60 to 70 yards off shore. Firefighters brought the three to shore about 15 minutes later using personal watercraft. All were fine when they got to shore, firefighters said.
