A state judge sentenced Aaron Susa this morning to the mandatory term of life in prison with the possibility for parole for the 2009 murder of a 25-year-old woman visiting here from New Mexico.

Circuit Judge Dexter Del Rosario ordered Susa, 33, to spend at least 10 years of his life prison term behind bars before he is eligible for parole because he is a repeat offender. The Hawaii Paroling Authority can set a higher minimum.

Susa has prior drug and drug paraphernalia possession convictions.

The nude body of Bryanne Antone washed up on the beach fronting the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Oct. 2, 2009.

Antone had drowned but she also had a broken larynx and ligature marks on her neck. She and her brother were in Hawaii to celebrate their birthdays while their mother attended a dental convention.

Please remember that this visitor would still be alive today had it not been for the leniency of Judge Pollack who let this animal out on parole early. Just 10 years for parole is terrible - it should have been 25 years at minimum. Please make sure he is sent to Arizona where he can dine on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches three times a day for the duration of his incarceration.

Del Rosario! you got to be kidding me, 10 years for taking a life? WEAK JUSTICE. Have some balls you judges when you make your decisions. Always think that the victim is a family member of yours and then maybe we will have justice.

This is an outrage. This ridiculously lenient sentence plus the fact that there were witnesses who did nothing to help the poor victim makes me wonder sometimes...

For everyone's edification, the sentence of Life in prison with a 10 year mandatory minimum is what the Prosecution requested, and is the MAXIMUM allowed by law to be imposed by Judge Del Rosario. It is the Hawaii Paroling Authority that sets the actual minimum for the life sentence. The ten year minimum directs the Hawaii Paroling Authority that they may not go under ten years. So those of you who think Judge Del Rosario is being lenient, read the law first. The Judge in this case gave the defendant LIFE, not ten years. And that is the most he was allowed to give, under the law.
