KAILUA-KONA >> A Washington state man accused of beating his girlfriend to death at a Hawaii resort has been found mentally fit to stand trial.

A judge this week ruled 46-year-old Philip Howard Zimmerman can go to trial in the May 23 murder of 44-year-old Susan Brockert.

West Hawaii Today reports trial is scheduled for Aug. 7.

The case was on hold pending mental health examinations. A psychologist and two psychiatrists each found him mentally fit to proceed.

The couple from Bellevue, Wash. were vacationing at The Fairmont Orchid in South Kohala. A housekeeper testified at Zimmerman’s preliminary hearing that he saw Zimmerman hit Brockert with a large piece of granite from the room’s coffee table.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty and remains held without bail.

He needs to be sent to Arizona where he can dine on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches three times a day for the rest of his life. He does not deserve the good food the Hawaii prison system has to offer.

Unfortunately with the lack of empowerment that women face in all issues from control over the self and ones bodily health in family planning choices being made a PUBLIC LAW issue rather than a person choice issue- through the continual sexualization of girls and women in media as a whole, women are continually presented as chattel and objects of ownership, unequal pay for equal work, and many more women's issues. That there is no surprise DV continues unabated and getting worse in the 21st century is ignorance at the extreme.
