Kamilah Jackson scored 19 points to lead four Hawaii players in double figures as the Rainbow Wahine picked up a huge 61-49 win at Louisiana Tech today.
It was just the second win there all-time for UH (10-15, 5-5 Western Athletic Conference), which swept the Lady Techsters home-and-home for the first time. UH last won at the traditional women's hoops powerhouse on Feb. 10, 2007, under Jim Bolla.
LaTech (14-12, 7-4) cut an 11-point UH lead to two with 3:30 to play, but UH held firm from there, making key free throws while the Lady Techsters missed theirs.
Fourth-place UH swept a two-game WAC road trip for the first time under third-year coach Dana Takahara-Dias.
Vicky Tagalicod had 11 points, Breanna Arbuckle had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and point guard Alissa Campanero had 10 points, making all seven of her free throws.
UH scored the first five points of the second half for a 29-26 lead, and the teams traded baskets from there.
Arbuckle scored inside for a 37-33 lead with under 13 minutes left, and Tagalicod followed with a layup for a six-point lead.
Tagalicod nailed a 3-pointer to make it 42-33 by the midpoint of the half, then drained another basket for an 11-point lead.
The Lady Techsters surged back to cut UH's lead to 48-46 with 3:30 to play, but Jackson scored inside to push the lead back to four.
Kalei Adolpho scored inside for a six-point lead with 2 minutes left, and UH pushed its lead back to double digits in the final minute.
