Oregon handles Hawaii to win opening series

J.J. Altobelli went 5-for-6 with three doubles, two runs and two RBIs and Oregon, ranked No. 24 in today's Collegiate Baseball poll, hammered Hawaii 12-6 to win its first series ever at Les Murakami Stadium.

Shaun Chase homered and drove in two runs and Ryon Healy went 2-for-4 with four RBIs as Oregon (3-1) jumped all over Hawaii starter Scott Squier for seven runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Collin Bennett had two hits and drove in a run to extend his hitting streak to eight games dating back to last year.

Trevor Podratz hit a two-run single and Stephen Ventimilia went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, drawing three more walks to give him 10 for the series.

The Rainbows (1-3) return to action on Thursday for the first of five games in four days against Wagner College.
