A 55-year-old man was rescued Monday after he injured his ankle while hiking on the Hanakapiai Trail on Kauai.

At about 1 p.m. Monday, the Oregon man called 911 for assistance. Fire rescue aboard the Fire Department helicopter flew to a nearby landing zone in Hanakapiai Valley and located the hiker a quarter-mile away.

Three fire rescue crew members and a bystander carried the hiker to the aircraft before he was flown to Princeville Airport and transported to Wilcox Hospital for treatment.
