A United Airlines flight may have been struck by lightning on Sunday during a flight from San Francisco to Kauai, a United Airlines spokesman said.

It was not clear if a passenger saw the lightning strike and reported it to a crew member or a crew member witnessed the incident during Flight 371, but the Boeing 757 landed safely at Lihue, said United spokesman Rahsaan Johnson.

Passengers on the outgoing flight had to be rebooked on another flight while the plane was given a routine maintenance check.

The plane was not damaged and has since returned to service.
