Thunderstorms are expected to continue to batter the islands today and into Saturday morning, but the forecast calls for somewhat improved weather for the weekend.

National Weather Service forecasters call for the return of "fresh-to-strong tradewinds" this weekend as the "unsettled weather" that has hammered the islands for the past week departs.

Still, scattered showers remain in the forecast through Thursday.

On Hawaii island, summits are under a winter weather advisory, where a mixture of rain, fog and snow was expected, But forecasters say conditions on Hawaii island should begin to clear.
