A 40-year-old school employee was reportedly unaware he struck a 15-year-old girl with the Nissan pickup truck he was driving Tuesday afternoon at Kailua Intermediate School.

Police said the man was pulling out of a parking stall and was not aware the girl was seated on the ground next to the truck.

The girl was taken to Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with abrasions to her face and abdominal pain, but was later upgraded to good, stable condition, authorities said.

Police did not cite or arrest the driver.

The case was forwarded to the police Vehicular Homicide Section, which will review the case based on injuries and other circumstances.
