Hawaii jobless rate unchanged at 6.4% in March

Hawaii’s unemployment rate was a seasonally adjusted 6.4 percent in March, unchanged from February, the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations reported today.

The number of people without jobs held steady at 42,250 while the total labor force shrank slightly to 658,650 from 659,500 between March and February, according to the report.

Nationally, the unemployment rate fell to 8.2 percent in March from 8.3 percent in February.
The statewide and national data are adjusted for seasonal variations, such as temporary hiring during the holiday shopping season.

County jobless rates are not seasonally adjusted. The rate for Honolulu County rose to 5.7 percent in March from 5.5 percent in February. The rate rose to 7.1 percent from 6.9 percent in Maui County, to 8.1 percent from 8.0 percent in Kauai County and to 9.2 percent from 9.1 percent in Hawaii County.
