A 47-year-old man who called police to report a stolen bike is behind bars after he allegedly punched a 29-year-old Honolulu policewoman in the chest.
Police said while the officer was interviewing the man about the stolen bike Monday afternoon in Waikiki, the suspect became "belligerent, refused to cooperate with the investigation" and told the officer he didn't want to make a report.
As the officer was about to leave she noticed that the suspect was arguing with another woman.
The officer approached the suspect to break up the argument when he allegedly turned and punched her in the chest.
A second police officer arrived and helped subdue the suspect.
The suspect now faces first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer — a felony which carries a maximum jail term of five years.
