Bin Laden said to have wanted Obama assassinated

WASHINGTON >> A former Obama administration official says al Qaida leader Osama bin Laden wanted to see President Barack Obama and Gen. David Petraeus assassinated.

But Michael Leiter tells NBC's "Today" show he didn't think that necessarily was bin Laden's highest priority, suggesting the terrorist leader dreamed of another large-scale, 9/11-type attack on the United States.

Asked by "Today" host Matt Lauer Tuesday whether bin Laden's aim of seeing Obama assassinated was more of a "wish-list" than a plot, Leiter agreed.

Leiter served as head of the National Counterterrorism Center during the Obama administration. He was present with Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the White House a year ago as they monitored the U.S. operation that killed bin Laden at a Pakistan compound.

The price for the assasination would have been 100 cases of Just For Men hair gel.

No, they just wanted to show a picture of Bin Laden with a completely black beard. It's good advertisement for Just for Men hair gel. That stuff really works.

The truth, he was so out of the loop, he was just an expense for al Qaida that they were glad to have killed. The only condition was he was not to disclose who his protectors were for all those years, and a dead man tells no secrets. Hard to believe the Pakastanis would be that asleep at the wheel otherwise.

Al Qaeda has long been a threat, of course, but what concerns me is the possibility that some nut case in this country could go off the deep end and make an attempt on Obama, especially if he wins another term. I can't remember having seen as much hate and vitriol publicly directed against a President as Obama is getting. Perhaps it's a good thing that the Secret Service is undergoing a lot of scrutiny and getting their house in order.
