Lanai, Molokai groups continue cable opposition

By Associated Press

POSTED:

WAILUKU, Hawaii >>  Opponents of wind farms proposed for Molokai and Lanai say they'll have more work to do to after a proposed undersea cable has cleared a legislative hurdle in the state Senate.

The cable would be able to send power from the wind farms to Oahu and other islands.

Friends of Lanai spokesman Robin Kaye told The Maui News  his group's focus in the next six to nine months will be to educate people on Oahu how much the cable would cost.

Friends of Lanai opposes the proposed wind farm because of how it would affect Lanai's culture and environment.

I Aloha Molokai President Kanohowailuku Helm says his and other groups will remain opposed to the cable and Molokai wind farm regardless of what the Legislature says.
