Norm Chow, who debuts as a head coach this season with the University of Hawaii, ranks 98th among 124 major college head football coaches in preseason rankings compiled by The Sporting News.
The magazine notes Chow's excellence as an assistant coach but says, "Is Chow head coaching material? You never know for sure until a guy gets that chance."
Former UH head coach June Jones, now of Southern Methodist, is ranked 22nd while past Warrior assistants Paul Johnson (Georgia Tech), Ken Niumatalolo (Navy) and Rich Ellerson (Army) are Nos. 19, 35 and 79 respectively.
Alabama's Nick Saban heads the list and Boise State's Chris Petersen is No. 2.
