By Billy Hull

LAST UPDATED: 02:18 p.m. HST, May 20, 2012

The fourth-seeded Hawaii baseball team will open play in the Western Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday at noon Hawaii time against Fresno State at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.

The Rainbows (30-23, 10-8) finished a game behind New Mexico State, Sacramento State and Nevada, which all tied for first place at 11-7.

The Aggies and Hornets receive first-round byes with New Mexico State claiming the overall No. 1 seed following a 15-2 win over San Jose State on Sunday.

The Spartans are the odd team out after finishing last at 5-13.

UH and Fresno will meet in a rematch of the last two title games. The Rainbows beat the Bulldogs in 2010 while Fresno returned the favor last year in the only two tournaments played at Hohokam Stadium.

I'm sure there are others who read this story and wondered … what time? This is from the WAC web site: The tournament will begin on Wednesday, May 23 with No. 4 Hawai‘i taking on No. 5 Fresno State at 3 p.m. (PT). No. 3 Nevada will play No. 6 Louisiana Tech in the nightcap Wednesday at 7 p.m.
