The city is asking the public for more lei to make sure the graves of veterans in Oahu cemeteries are decorated on Memorial Day.

Volunteers made lei at Honolulu Hale or dropped them off at fire stations and district parks on Friday.

About 30,000 lei had been collected by Friday night, but 50,000 lei are needed to decorate each grave this Monday.

To help, you can drop off lei at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

There are a lot of plumeria flowers out there, but these trees are now too tall to pick from. The fire dept and commercial trucks with cherry pickers should volunteer their services and go around the island picking the much needed flowers.

Lei - there is no "s". The plural and singular form of "lei" is the same, like "deer".

Both are acceptable. It depends on your perspective. Lei is plural in Hawaiian. However, in anglican english, it's "leis".
