For the second time in about four months, a container ship crew heading to Honolulu participated in a rescue at sea.
An 81-year-old boater is safe aboard the Horizon Reliance, which is expected to arrive in Honolulu early Thursday.
A U.S. Coast Guard-sponsored vessel rescue system said the container ship rescued the man on a sailboat more than 1,000 miles off Oahu.
Hawaii News Now reports the man’s family says he was sailing with two others from California to Hilo when he suffered a stroke.
The nearly 900-foot containership saved three Canadians during a dramatic rescue in February. Two men and a 9-year-old boy were attempting their first voyage across the Pacific when they found themselves adrift in rough seas after their mast broke.
