Firefighters were working to extinguish a small brush fire that flared up Sunday afternoon in Kapolei near Costco.
The approximately 2-acre fire was initially reported as minor when the call came in around 1:30 p.m., but crews asked for two additional tankers when the wind picked up and the fire began to spread faster, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.
A Hawaiian Electric pole was damaged by the blaze, but no outages were reported, a utility spokeswoman said.
Flames from the fire were extinguished before 3 p.m., and crews are expected to remain in the area for at least an additional hour to drench the fire and make sure it has no chance of rekindling.
