The University of Hawaii men's basketball has lost another player, guard Orel Lev, an athletic department spokesman confirmed today.

Lev, a 6-foot, 4-inch freshman from Tel Aviv, Israel, redshirted last season and would have had four years of eligibility remaining.

He is at least the fifth player from the 2011-12 roster with eligibility remaining who will not return.

Previously, guards Bobby Miles and Shaquille Stokes and forwards Joston Thomas and Trevor Wiseman all said they would not be returning.

According to a UH spokesman, head coach Gib Arnold said Lev's departure was related to his military commitment.

Wasn't Gib aware of this possibility when we paid for Lev's tuition and living expenses for one year. Haim did not have this problem. Unless Netanyahu has implemented new policies, this seems like another excuse for the unprecedented exodus.

I suspect it's only a matter of time before Vander leaves too. The public is not getting the full story behind all the players leaving, it can't be random departures, that's much too convenient. I wonder if it's Coach Arnold's style of coaching? Next season is going to be a LONG season filled with disappointment.

Totally agree that there's something going on behind the scenes that we're not being made aware of. Come on UH - fess up to the obvious!

I'd like to see what kind of defensive and huffy statement Gary Dickman has to say on this matter. If anything, before he rudely interrupts and hangs up on a caller.

This is a big disappointment. The issue of Lev's military obligation was brought up months ago. There were assurances from the coaching staff that the matter had been addressed and it wouldn't be a problem. Someone didn't do their homework or was gambling with scholarship money that could have been invested in a player who would stick around to complete his eligibility. Gib should explain what happened and take accountability.

Thanks Lev, better for UH now than later because we have time to look for an even better player than you who will be able to committ to this program for real... and good luck over there...

I'm tired of hearing Curran and Dickman quote statistics of transfers in collegiate basketball. First of all what is happening under Coach Gibs' program is far beyond some statistic deviation. There is something that stinks in Manoa.

Those two will never say anything critical of UH. They are the political spin mouthpieces of ESPN 1420 and are probably directed by their bosses at the behest of the UH brass to not say anything critical or judgemental.
