One woman was killed and two other people were injured in a head-on car collision this morning in Kaaawa that left Kamehameha Highway closed in both directions for nearly four hours.
The head-on collision occurred shorty before 5 a.m. The woman was traveling in a white Dodge Dakota pickup truck heading toward Kaneohe and couldn't avoid a black Jeep Compass coming in the other direction that had crossed the center line.
Police stopped traffic just past Kaaawa Elementary heading town-bound. Those traveling toward Kahuku were stopped at Kualoa Point.
Witnesses said the driver in the black Jeep was weaving all over the highway as they tried to flash their lights and honk their horn to get him to stop. According to witnesses, the driver just missed hitting two other cars. The driver took a sobriety test at the scene. Paramedics took two passengers in his car to the hospital; one in critical condition, the other in serious condition.
