State Department of Land and Natural Resources and Kauai County firefighters say they have “turned the corner” in their efforts to contain a 650-acre forest fire on Hikimoe Ridge that has been burning for nearly a week.
According to a DLNR release, the fire remains 25 percent contained and no night watch was necessary between Friday and Saturday.
The extensive effort has involved 48 Division of Forestry and Wildlife personnel, four Kauai firefighters, one engine, three helicopters, three water tenders and three bulldozers.
The fire broke out on Monday.
