Hawaii County firefighters continued to make progress in their battle with a ongoing brush fire in Pahala Saturday.
According to a Hawaii County Fire Department report, a 400-acre area above Pahala is 95 percent contained and firefighters are continuing to monitor the area and extinguish hot spots while maintaining the perimeter.
A larger area makai of Pahala Town is approximately 60 percent contained. Firefighters there are maintaining the perimeter but concentrating their efforts on the southern flank.
The fires have been burning since June 18 and have burned nearly 5,300 acres.
