Honolulu fire rescue crews airlifted a pair of hikers to safety this evening after they wandered off a marked trail in Aiea.
According to Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Carlton Yamada, the hikers, identified as a man in his 30s and his teenage daughter, started along the Aiea Loop Trail and continued along Aiea Ridge before getting lost as they left the trail to head toward the summit ridge.
Responding to the 2:12 p.m. call, rescue personnel had to be lowered by helicopter onto the ridge trail and then hike more than an hour to the lost pair’s location.
The hikers were finally airlifted to safety around 6:30 p.m.
