June bankruptcy filings lowest in nearly 4 years

Bankruptcy filings in Hawaii fell in June for the 16th consecutive month, according to data released today by U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

The 185 cases filed in June was 33 percent fewer than the 276 cases filed the same month a year earlier, the court reported. The volume of filings in June was the lowest in nearly four years. Bankruptcy filings have been trending lower since averaging 330 a month during the recent peak in 2010.

Bankruptcies fell in all counties. In Honolulu County the number of cases fell to 117 in June, a 28.2 percent drop from 163 the same month last year.

Filings fell to 30 in Maui County, a 53.8 percent decline from 65 filings in June 2011. In Hawaii County filings fell 6.7 percent to 28 cases and in Kauai County they fell 44.4 percent to 10 cases.
